About the studio....

Picture
The studio has three seasons. Season one begins in March. Dates for classes will be announced by the first of January so you have plenty of time to make decisions. Season two is summer sessions. Those classes begin the first full week of June. Art Camp also occurs during Summer season.  The 3rd season is Fall. Classes begin on the first Tuesday after Labor Day. Dates and classes are always announced by the first of August.  Classes finish up in November for the year leaving all of us free for the holiday season and not having to worry about going out in the cold weather of January and February.

About ArtIsIn Studio

Graphite Chicken
If you don’t believe you can do it, you never will!  Instilling confidence in artists and art students is so very important.  And, it is the first priority at ArtIsIn Studio.

Gentle guidance combined with solid technique, premium products, and your imagination is all it takes to create artwork you’ll be proud to hang.

Classes are designed to be age appropriate. The breakdown of classes will be as follows:

 - 5-7 year old
 - 8-10 year old
 - Junior
 - Adult
 - Senior

Introductory classes are scheduled for all age groups. Introductory classes are designed to establish a solid foundation for you to build on while giving you the confidence you need to move into higher level art classes. The studio recommends that all students consider taking an introductory class. Over the course of time, there will be opportunity for all mediums to be explored at ArtIsIn Studio. Enrichment classes in specific mediums will be offered. Classes will include but are not limited to the following:

 - Drawing classes: pencil, charcoal, graphite
 - Pastel classes: oil pastel, soft pastel
 - Painting: acrylic, watercolor, oil
 - Mixed media, specialty medium
 - Gouache and ink, decoupage, outsider art, ACEO/ATC trading card art
 - Portfolio building classes
 - Individual private lessons

ArtIsIn Studio will maintain an in-house student gallery; however, we are directly associated with the Framer’s Gallery on the Square ( theframersgallery.com ) in Washington, Illinois.   From time to time artists from our classes will be invited to exhibit in a professional gallery. If a student's art is selected, it will be with the permission of the artist and/or the artist’s parent(s). No artwork will be sold without the artist's permission.

The studio will provide supplies for classes. Some materials and supplies will be available for purchase in the studio, but we are primarily a learning facility so supplies for sale will be limited.

Check out our Open Studio time schedule and come join in with our local artists!

Bits of Village History Live on thru ArtIsIn Studio

Christ's Bakery was as much a landmark as it was legendary. ArtIsIn Studio is currently using the stools that the bakery had around the horseshoe snack bar where most of us indulged in the best doughnuts and danishes ever made. It is with reverence to the institution and pride that the studio puts to use this seating. They sit about an inch higher than a regular chair and allow for ease of movement for artists to reposition themselves. They are charming now mixed with the brick walls and other elements of antiquity in the studio. Also, to house the few retail art supplies available for students here, we are using the old bakery display case. I scrubbed it up and filled it with paper and pencils and such. It sits just to the right of the front door as you enter. New life for a few old pieces of village history.

Fun Facts to Know and Tell about ArtIsIn Studio

Picture
ArtIsIn Studio continues to reclaim treasures from the past. Another example is the collection of orange chairs. These "happening shade of tangerine" chairs are in near new condition and were rescued from a renovation project at the Marshall Putnam County Farm Bureau building in Henry, Illinois. They were a gift from Chuck Holz, who is also credited around our house with having introduced Jeff and I.  The first time I saw these chairs, my impression was "Yikes! these belong in a place like an art studio!"  That was a couple years ago. These are so groovy, I can still hear the Led Zeppelin music playing.

The studio has put to good use the last 3 weeks a familiar character to the students and artists at the studio. We call her Ann Boleyn. Because if you get too close, it could take your head off. This free standing paper cutter is just one of my many lucky finds in the back room at Dick Blick.

After a good night of doing art classes, and a good day of doing art, this place is well lived in. It may look like a mess, but it's a mess of art. Still the most awesome place on earth.
